Oasis for Youth provides a pathway
for homeless and precariously housed youth
to become self-sufficient, contributing members of the community.
A 2012 state-wide study counted 10,214 homeless adults, youth and children in Minnesota - a 6% increase over the previous year. Half of those are youth and children under the age of 21, and half again are youth who are not with parents or guardians.
This count under-represents the total homeless population, since many homeless people (who are not registered with any shelter system) were not found on the day of the count -- this is especially true for youth.
The growing number of suburban homeless and precariously housed youth
makes up one of the hardest groups to identify and count.
Oasis for Youth is a community based small nonprofit organization poised to help the growing population of homeless and precariously housed youth, 16 to 21 years of age, in Bloomington, Richfield and Edina, Minnesota.
