Volunteers at Oasis

Oasis for Youth relies on the support of many terrific community members. If you were born to teach, are a wiz on the computer, love to help with resumes, or just enjoy helping youth, chances are we could use your help. Contact us today to see how you can make a difference in the lives of youth.

How to Volunteer at Oasis

Please contact us: info@oasisforyouth.org and give us some basic information about yourself, how you heard about Oasis, what you are interested in, and how we might contact you.

Here are some specific on-going needs:

Drop-in Center volunteers

Volunteers are key in creating a safe, warm, and welcoming place for the youth who come by Oasis. Duties include hospitality for youth when they come in, assisting with programmed activities, and helping youth use the laundry and computer facilities, access the clothes closet and personal care resources. Volunteers help set-up and close the center, which requires some light lifting and light cleaning. Volunteer shift hours are Monday through Friday from 2 p.m. until 5 p.m. We are flexible and will make a schedule that works for you.

A criminal background check and references are required for all volunteers in the Resource Center who are working with youth. Volunteers in the Resource Center must be 21 years of age or older.

Tutoring, community outreach, transportation and youth program volunteers

We also need volunteers for:

Tutoring our youth after school

Educating our communities about what Oasis does and who could benefit from our services

Providing transportation to food banks and other services

Resume review, application assistance and interview preparation

Leading programs on various topics during drop-in hours, e.g., how to be a good tenant, how to make a budget, cooking classes, and facilitating games.

These opportunities are at various times and days.  These volunteers also need to be 21 years of age and complete a background check process and training.

Other Volunteer Opportunities

Other opportunities include helping with special events, clothing and hygiene supply drives and assistance with advocacy, fundraising, publicity and marketing.

Host home program volunteers and host homes are also needed.

Volunteer on the board of directors

Board members are added every year.  We also have community volunteers on committees of the board:  Marketing, Finance, Events, Governance, Fundraising and Program.  Contact our Governance committee chair for more information:  John Satorius via email at jsatorius@fredlaw.com.
